![]() Really like the concept of this collected set of essays on everything from American Exceptionalism to police violence. I am familiar with both Kruse and Zelizer and their work on post 1973 history. Replacing myths with research and reality, Myth America is essential reading amid today’s heated debates about our nation’s past. Based on a firm foundation of historical scholarship, their findings revitalize our understanding of American history. The contributors debunk narratives that portray the New Deal and Great Society as failures, immigrants as hostile invaders, and feminists as anti-family warriors-among numerous other partisan lies. Zelizer have assembled an all-star team of fellow historians to push back against this misinformation. Distortions of the past promoted in the conservative media have led large numbers of Americans to believe in fictions over facts, making constructive dialogue impossible and imperiling our democracy. ![]() The United States is in the grip of a crisis of bad history. ![]() ![]() In this instant New York Times bestseller, America’s top historians set the record straight on the most pernicious myths about our nation’s past. ![]()

They should be studied as long as possible before turning the page. This is a great choice because the illustrations tell so much more. Even the text is a dark green, as if Smith didn’t want the font to take away from the illustrations. The words are very matter-of-fact, telling the story with no adjectives or adverbs. This type of illustration works perfectly with the subject matter. All of the colors are very muted even the greens are strong rather than vibrant. The illustrations look simple, because they consist of line drawings with very few colors, and the green areas are more heavily sponged. Each page is packed with meaningful illustrations that go well beyond the scope of the words themselves. Though the book has words, flipping through the pages feels as memorable as flipping through a photo album. Lane Smith’s illustrations are absolutely breathtaking. ![]() More of the story is told through illustration than words, so it’s crucial to pay attention to every page, because there’s another layer to the story hidden there! Elder's storyline should have been the best part of this book, but somehow even that was poorly done.I didn't realize in the first book how absolutely nothing Elder and Amy are. He's constantly saying that the people of Godspeed don't realize all the work he's doing, but we never actually see him do anything, or think of the future. Instead, way too much time is devoted to the clue hunt, and Elder's plot also falls short. The idea of the inhabitants of Godspeed getting restless and rebellions threatened should have been the main storyline. ![]() It made absolutely no sense that he'd take the time and leave clues for her - especially such hard ones. Review 2: Well. When I read Across the Universe, I had some problems with it, but they were easily overlooked. Luckily, Beth Revis developed the characters enough in this book that I'm somewhat invested now and want to find out what happens. I could not see how they were going to resolve the problems presented - and it turns out that they didn't, leaving all resolution for the last book which I now have no choice but to read.
